Overview

Falkland Place is getting a facelift

In September 2015, in partnership with Groundwork London, we held consultation events to find out what open space improvements could be made at Falkland Place. We ensured a range of views were captured and a variety of interests and needs were represented.

The designs have been developed in response to the community’s needs and aspirations, and the Council’s priorities for managing and maintaining the open space.

Priority improvements you mentioned were:

• Provide more stimulating play equipment to enhance the experience for local families.

• Enhance the open space’s visual appeal, including more colourful planting.

• More privacy and security for the residential housing backing onto this area.

• Balancing the needs of dog walkers, families with children and casual users.

We have developed a design proposal (please see attached) that addresses these priorities by the following features:

•Older children’s play area - New play equipment such as timber balance poles and stone boulders providing more opportunities for natural play.

•Toddler’s play area - Installation of rubber mounds, stepping stumps and trampoline encouraging free and imaginative play.

•Colourful planting to include evergreen and a range of flowers to enhance the space.

•Railings along bordering properties to reduce impact of anti-social behaviour on residents.

•Extension of the lawn area in the older children’s play area and reduction in the size of the dog exercise area.

We sincerely hope you like the attached design.

The works are expected to begin in early summer and be completed before the school summer holidays.
