Greenway Scheme Park Village East
Overview
The council consulted on its proposals to improve cycling permeability along Park Village East.
Park Village East is a residential road connecting The Regent’s Park to Mornington Crescent. The road offers cyclists a safer and quieter alternative to Camden High Street. Although closed to northbound traffic between Parkway and Mornington Street, Park Village East has been identified as a potential Greenway cycle route.
Greenways are pedestrian or cycle leisure routes that are either off road or follow quiet residential roads, connecting to outdoor spaces such as parks or waterways.
This scheme aimed to provide a safe and desirable route that helps cyclists connect to nearby Regent’s Park and the wider Greenways network. Camden Council proposed to retain Park Village East as a southbound only road for all vehicles except for cyclists. This would improve cycling permeability in the area without affecting the existing traffic situation on Park Village East.
Why your views matter
We wanted to provide you an opportunity to comment on the Council’s proposal to improve cycling permeability along Park Village East.
The proposal was to change the signage on Park Village East at the junction with Mornington Street to allow CYCLISTS ONLY to travel in a northbound direction. White lines and cycle symbols would be marked at intervals on the road to raise motorist’s awareness of oncoming cyclists. Northbound cyclists would only be able to turn left onto Parkway from Park Village East.
Please see further details of the proposals.
What happens next
At the end of the consultation period on 11 March 2011, the Assistant Director of Culture and Environment considered the all responses to make a decision whether or not to proceed with the scheme.
