Local list nominations

Closed 21 Jan 2013

Opened 22 Nov 2012

Overview

We are now seeking nominations of features in Camden to be assessed for inclusion on Camden’s Local List.

The nomination period will run from 22nd November 2012 to 21st January 2013.

Why your views matter

The purpose of the local list is to identify heritage features that are not subject to any other designation, such as listed building status or a registered historic park or garden.

Camden benefits from a rich and varied historic environment, some of which is formally designated and some which is important to the character of the local area but is not protected in any way.  These ‘non-designated’ features help give Camden’s local areas their distinctive identity - the particular character that makes it different from elsewhere.

Often it is the commonplace things around us that give this character, but they may be overlooked because of their very ordinariness. Pubs, shops, places of meeting, places of worship, benches, statues: subtle or idiosyncratic elements; all contribute to the particular character of a place. These things make a place special for local people, and help it to express a ‘personality’ that carries history, traditions, stories and memories into the present day.  .

We would like you to tell us of any features which you think are important to the character of your local area and should be considered for inclusion on the local list.

Requirements

To ensure that high quality, locally significant features are identified each nomination will have to meet the adopted selection criteria.

The selection criteria were adopted on 14th November 2012  following public consultation.
