Red Lion Street - Parking Amendments

PROPOSED PARKING AND WAITING/LOADING CHANGES RED LION STREET

We are writing to seek your views on the Council’s proposals to amend parking/loading changes on Red Lion Street between Theobald’s Road and Princeton Street. The Council has been made aware of loading difficulties experienced by The Enterprise Public House resulting in delivery vehicles having to park in adjacent parking bays or on the footway causing an obstruction to pedestrians and vehicular traffic. The Council has also been made aware of redundant business bay (A12) outside 29 -37 Red Lion Street which will be removed as part of the proposed changes. .

The Council will be introducing parking changes to accommodate loading facilities for the Enterprise Public House by proposing 12 metres single yellow line, relocating 12 metre general disabled bay and extended it by 1.2 metres, reducing the existing 22 metre (4 car spaces) pay and display parking bay to 14.2 metres (2 car spaces) and introducing double yellow lines with ‘no loading’ at any time restriction at Red Lion Street junction with Theobald’s Road. This will allow vehicles to queue at the signalised junction without obstruction from parked vehicles, which should ease congestion and improve traffic flow at this location. There will be a loss of 2 pay and display car parking spaces as result of this proposal.

The proposals have been illustrated in detail on the drawing included with this letter. 

The proposals are summarised as follows:

1. To remove a 6 metre redundant business bay (A12). Business bay A22 will remain in place.
2. To convert 20 metres of existing single yellow line into double yellow lines with ‘no loading at any time’ restriction at Red Lion Street junction with Theobald’s Road
3. To remove 12 metres of general disabled parking bay and create 12 metres of single yellow line to accommodate loading.
4. To create a 13.2 metre general disabled bay
5. To remove 7.8 metres of the existing 22 metre (4 car spaces) pay and display parking bay leaving 14.2 metres (2 car spaces) of pay and display parking bay
