Swiss Cottage Open Space Improvements
Overview
In September 2015, in partnership with Groundwork London, we held engagement events with local residents and stakeholders to find out what improvements could be made at Swiss Cottage Open Space. The designs have been developed in response to the community’s needs and aspirations, and the Council’s priorities for managing and maintaining the open space.
Priority improvements you mentioned were:
- To make the space more visually appealing through colourful planting
- Better signage to guide visitors
- To enhance the Adelaide Road side, making it more inviting
- Repair existing benches that have deteriorated
- Remove the gaps in hedges and improve the lawn around the water feature
- Create a user friendly space for different groups.
We have developed a design proposal (available to download below) that addresses these priorities by the following features:
- Additional low level planting - flowers and evergreens under the rose bushes
- Adelaide Road frontage - bench repaired and new wild flower meadow planting
- Way-finding signage to enhance visitor experience
- Selection of plants to create year round colour
- Lawn repairs to the central grass terraces around the water feature
- Hedge trimming and repairs to improve visibility
- Anti-skate deterrents to protect the water fountain perimeter
- Installation of litter bins.
Outdoor Gym – new lease of life
A brand new outdoor gym will be installed this summer 2016 by Park Leisure and Sport Ltd. This will be free to use. Funded by Camden and Islington Public Health, there will be a wide range of equipment on offer, suitable for all abilities with a focus on body weight resistance and includes benches with pedals to allow seated exercise and a place to rest. Please download the design proposal to see the gym plan.
We sincerely hope you like the proposals. The works are expected to begin in Spring 2016 and be completed before the school summer holidays.
If you have any comments or for a hard copy of the design, please contact me by email or telephone using the contact details on the right.
Deadline for feedback: Friday 8th April 2016.
