Overview

London Borough of Camden – Workplace Parking Levy Feasibility Study

Camden Council has a vision for the borough that includes working to build clean, vibrant and sustainable places. In addition, the last Camden Business Survey to be undertaken in ‘business as usual’ circumstances ( in 2017) highlighted that two of the top three most important issues for businesses were good transport links and the quality of the local environment.

In striving to deliver these aspirations, the Camden Transport Strategy(CTS) and Clean Air Action Plan contain a proposal to undertake a feasibility study into a Workplace Parking Levy (WPL) in Camden and recognise that a WPL could be an important tool, as part of a wider basket of measures, to reduce car ownership, car use and motor traffic levels in the Borough.

To progress this proposal, in May 2019, consultants working on behalf of Camden Council visited several businesses in Camden to carry out a count of parking spaces and vehicles parked on a typical workday.  Please click on the link, at the bottom of this page, to access a copy of the letter that was sent to those businesses at the time explaining what a WPL is and seeking permission to visit their premises.

Unfortunately, due to the impacts of the COVID19 pandemic on working patterns, it is necessary for us to gather more up to date information on our businesses to ascertain whether there is a viable WPL scheme in light of these changes.   We therefore would be grateful if you would complete this survey which asks for information around parking provision at your site by 30 June 2022.

The data is being gathered only for the purpose of Camden’s research into a WPL and will not be shared with third parties.

Finally we would like to assure you that we are at the very early stages of considering the feasibility of a WPL and no final decisions have been made. In the event that a WPL is considered suitable to progress, there would be a comprehensive public consultation process, impact assessments and other stages to undertake prior to any implementation.

We would like to thank you in advance for your help and if you have further questions about this feasibility study please email us at CamdenWPL@camden.gov.uk.

Kind regards,

Transport Policy Team
