Consultation on Camden school term dates for 2017/18
Overview
Camden has proposed the following four options for term dates in 2017/18:
- Option 1 is the proposed dates that are common across London - from Monday 4th September 2017 to Monday 23rd July 2018.
- Option 2 reflects local school requests for two weeks at Christmas and Easter, but has an earlier start date than option 1 - from Friday 1st September 2016 to Tuesday 24th July.
- Option 3 reflects local school requests for two weeks at Christmas and Easter but finishes later in July 2018 - from Monday 4th September to Wednesday 25th July 2018.
- Option 4 has a longer Christmas break and finishes later in July 2018 – from Monday 4th September 2017 to Thursday 26th July 2018.
See Related Document 'Term dates 2017/18 options' for proposed dates for each option.
Camden recommends Option 3.
Schools should indicate their preference from Options 1 – 4 by 3rd June 2016 and the Executive Director for Supporting People will confirm the agreed dates by 24th June 2016, based on the view expressed by schools. Dates will be published on the Camden website shortly afterwards.
Why your views matter
Proposed legislation in September 2015 to allow community schools to set their own term dates was never enacted. Free Schools, Academies, and Voluntary Aided schools do however have the freedom to set their own school holidays but it recommended that they follow the local authority dates where possible.
