Camden Planning Guidance review – Call for views

Overview

A review of these Camden Planning Guidance documents is needed to ensure that they are up to date, reflect, and provide clear guidance on the implementation of, the policies in the new Camden Local Plan and take into account changes to national planning policy and legislation.

As work begins on the review we would like to hear the views of those who use the existing Camden Planning Guidance documents to ensure the updated guidance is as effective as possible.

How can I get involved?

At this stage we are inviting comments on any matter you think it is important for us to consider in the review of Camden Planning Guidance.  Comments are welcome on CPG in general terms and on the content of the individual documents.  We would particularly like to hear your views on the following:

• Do you find the current structure of Camden Planning Guidance useful and clear?  How easy is it to find the material you are looking for?

• How effective are the current CPG documents?  Is the guidance in them easy to understand and use? Is it clear when and how the guidance should be applied?  If not, how could it be improved?

• Would a web-based version be easier to use or do you prefer the current PDF format?

• Would more, shorter documents on specific topics be preferable? 

• Are there any issues not currently covered in Camden Planning Guidance that you think should be included in the updated guidance?

We are proposing to undertake this work in two phases, with CPG 3 Sustainability, CPG 4 Basements, CPG 5 Town Centre and Employment, CPG 6 Amenity and elements of the CPG2 Housing in the first phase.

• Are there matters covered by the CPG documents scheduled for the second phase of the work (that is, CPG1 Design, the remainder of CPG2 Housing, CPG7 Transport and CPG8 Planning obligations) that you consider should be reviewed as part of the first phase?

What happens next?

Taking into account the views we receive, we will prepare revised drafts of the Camden Planning Guidance documents being reviewed in the first phase, and consult on them later in the year. 
We intend to adopt the final versions as formal Supplementary Planning Documents which can be given significant weight as ‘material considerations’ in planning decisions.
Consultation on the second phase CPG documents will follow in 2018.
