Overview

Under the Gambling Act 2005 (the Act) the Council has powers to regulate local gambling activity in the borough of Camden.

We are required to publish a licensing policy setting out how we will regulate gambling activities. Our current gambling policy is due to expire on 30 January 2019.

The Policy plays an important role in our desire to manage the risk of gambling-related harm in Camden and to regulate gambling activity to mitigate the risk of such harm.  In setting out how operators of gambling premises should operate, the Policy contributes to achieving Camden Plan priorities relating to reduced levels of crime and ensuring there is a vibrant cultural and leisure offer for residents, businesses and visitors that is safe and attractive.

Our policy needs to be up to date and relevant to the individual characteristics of the borough.  A number of areas in the current Policy are no longer relevant or need updating and we have now developed the revised draft Policy and supporting Local Area Profile (LAP).

We are now consulting on those changes and would like to hear your views.

Why your views matter

If we propose to make any changes to our Gambling Policy, the law requires us to consult the following on those changes.

  • The police borough commander for Camden
  • Representatives of gambling businesses in Camden
  • Representatives of persons who are likely to be affected by the Council carrying out its functions under the Act

Please download the draft Policy and LAP so you can refer to them when responding to this consultation and please read the notes on each page carefully before you answer the question.

Please give your view by clicking next to your chosen answer. You will be unable to move on to the next question unless you provide an answer.

Please note that we must receive your views no later than mid-night on Friday 1 September 2017 otherwise we may not be able to consider them.

What happens next

After the consultation closes the Council's Licensing Committee will consider your responses and any other relevant information and decide whether we should make further changes to our draft Policy.  The Licensing Committee will then make a recommendation to the full Council on whether to approve the draft Policy.

We hope to publish a revised Policy early in 2018.
