EMERALD STREET - MINOR PARKING CHANGES

Overview

We are writing to seek your views on the proposals to change existing parking restrictions on Emerald Street and Richbell Place. Emerald Street is a heavily used road by delivery vehicles which deliver goods to many businesses located both on Emerald Street and Richbell Place. Both roads have narrow carriageways and footpaths, which often results in delivery vehicles mounting the kerb and parking on footway. This form of parking obstructs the footpath so pedestrians regularly walk in the carriageway.

Following site visits by Council officers it is proposed to convert the existing single yellow line into double yellow lines with no loading/waiting at any time restriction on both Emerald Street and Richbell Place. This parking restriction should prevent vehicles from mounting the kerb and obstructing both pedestrian and vehicular access. Officers recognise that there is high demand for loading provision on both streets therefore loading facilities have been provided in the form of short stretches of retained single yellow line and the introduction of a 10 metre loading bay on Richbell Place

What happens next

While it will not be possible to reply to you individually, all comments will be taken into account. At the end of this consultation exercise, a consultation report will be written which will outline details of the proposal and any relevant comments received. This report will be presented to The Assistant Director of Environment and Transport will make a decision whether or not to proceed with the scheme.
