PSPO consultation: Tackling anti-social behaviour in association with pedicabs in the London Borough of Camden

Closed 15 Feb 2016

Opened 21 Dec 2015

Overview

The Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 was passed last year. The Act made significant changes to the powers available to local authorities, the police and partners in tackling anti-social behaviour (ASB).

The Act introduced Public Space Protection Orders (PSPO) as a new power. PSPOs allow local authorities to design and introduce requirements and prohibitions in regards to a wide range of behaviours where they have a detrimental effect on the quality of life of those living in the locality, which is persistent or continuing in nature.

Why your views matter

We are aware of community concerns especially in areas south of the Euston Road about the impact of ASB associated with pedicabs, particularly noise nuisance and disturbance late at night and in the early hours of the morning.

We are considering the introduction of a PSPO in Camden to tackle this problem. Under any new order, police and accredited council officers would be able to issue on-the-spot fines of up to £100 to people operating pedicabs that are causing ASB. The powers could be applied at specific times or in specified areas.

Residents and businesses are being asked for their views on whether or not a PSPO should be put in place to tackle anti-social behaviour associated with pedicabs, the terms of its use and for any other comments, including any details of possible alternative options as well as arguments against the proposals.

The consultation will run from Monday 21st December to Monday 15th February.
