Overview
The West Hampstead area is already largely characterised as a '20mph Zone', though some roads do not fall within this restriction - this is especially apparent in the residential area to the west of West End Lane. These streets appear to have a poor accident record compared to other streets, which is a concern.
It is for these reasons that the council proposes a 20mph limit to be introduced in this area, which will be implemented using low cost solutions, such as using signs and line markings.
Why your views matter
In helping to enforce the proposed 20mph in West Hampstead, measures aimed at calming traffic and improving safety have also been proposed. These include:
- implementing a raised junction table (road hump across a junction) at the meeting of Sumatra Road and Glenbrook Road; and
- implementing raised entry treatments (road humps at side road junction) at the meeting of Solent Road and Glenbrook Road.
The council would like to hear your views on the proposed measures to find out if there is broad public support for them.
In addition to our statutory consultees, we are seeking views from residents/businesses who would be affected by our proposals as they are generally in close proximity to the proposals.
You must give your address when responding as we will not be able consider views that have been returned annoymously.
What happens next
While it will not be possible to reply to you individually, all comments will be taken into account. The Assistant Director of Culture and Environment will make a decision whether or not to proceed with the scheme and you will be informed of the outcome of this consultation and the Council's decision within three months, where possible.
