Why your views matter

The Hate Crime Working Group in Camden wants to find out more about people’s experiences of hate crime and any barriers to reporting, because we are always looking for ways to improve our service.

We are confident that Camden is one of the safest, if not the safest London borough to live in for potential victims of hate crime. This is because in Camden we encourage reporting.

Many people who experience hate crime do not report it and this is a national problem. The British Crime Survey has recorded year on year that most hate crime is not reported and therefore not recorded. The reasons given for this include fear that the complaint will not be taken seriously by the authorities, fear that they will be treated in a discriminatory manner by the very agencies that are supposed to support them, poor advertising of services, so that people do not know who to report hate crime to.

We want to make sure that everyone who lives and works in this borough understands what hate crime is and knows how and where to report it.

We want to know if people who visit,  live in and work in Camden feel that Camden is inclusive and feel that the police, council and other partners such as Victim Support, LGBT Forum and BME Alliance do enough to fight Hate Crime and support the communities that hate crime affects. We want to know whether we advertise our services well enough. If there is a problem in accessing services, we want to know  how we can improve access.
