Buckland Crescent Bus Priority Consultation

Closed 6 Jan 2024

Opened 6 Dec 2023

Overview

We want our streets to have more safe space for everyone to walk and cycle, for children to get to and from school safely and healthily, for businesses to be able to flourish, to reduce carbon emissions from vehicles and for you to be breathing cleaner air.

We want our streets to provide a lasting legacy of greener, safer, healthier travel.

As 69% of households in Camden do not own a car and public transport use remains much lower than before the pandemic, we know that safe and easy walking, cycling and scooting routes are more important than ever. Supporting and encouraging those who are able to walk and cycle, by creating safer streets will ensure that there is more space available on public transport and on our roads for those who need it the most.

Why your views matter

We are seeking your views on changes to the bus stops on Buckland Crescent to improve bus journey times and reliability.

Transport for London (TfL) has identified Buckland Crescent as a key area needing improvements for bus journey times. To support these improvements we are proposing changes that would improve bus journey time reliability for bus number 268 which runs along Buckland Crescent. The two existing Bus Stop U outside 18 Buckland Crescent (northbound) and Bus Stop Z outside 29 Buckland Crescent (southbound) are close to each other which creates a pinch point. We are now consulting on the following measures:

  • Relocate Bus Stop Z to outside 29 Buckland Crescent (southbound) 25 metres northeast of the existing bus stop to alleviate the pinch point.
  • Introduce Double Yellow Lines with double kerb markings (no parking/waiting at any time) next to the bus stops so that buses are not delayed by parked vehicles. This would include changes to parking, including the removal of 3 residents permit holder only parking spaces.

What happens next

After the consultation, a decision report will be produced and published online via our website. Local residents and stakeholders will be notified of the outcome. The report will consider a broad range of information including officer observations, consultation responses, relevant policies, and other data/information.

All of this information will be considered in making recommendations in the report about whether the proposed changes should be constructed under a permanent Traffic Management Order.
