We are looking for people that live or work in Camden to continue to a play a vital role in assisting with Camden’s response to the climate crisis. Would you like to be a part of it?

Following Camden’s Citizens’ Assembly on the Climate Crisis in 2019, Camden launched its Climate Action Plan, an ambitious five-year programme of projects and activities that brings to life a vision of a zero-carbon borough.

To help us deliver this vision, we stood up our Camden Climate Citizen Panel to help review and support the council’s progress against the Climate Action Plan. The panel is made up of 15 residents who live and work in the borough.

The panels first cohort, recruited in Autumn 2020 have recently come to the end of their two-year tenure. Information on the first cohort and what they discussed can be found here: Camden Climate Citizen Panel - Camden Council.

We are now recruiting for the panel's second cohort for the remainder of the Climate Action Plan (which will finish in early 2025).

What is the role of the panel?

  • To review and challenge the progress of Camden’s climate initiatives against the action plan as well as borough-wide challenges and projects
  • To be an active audience for projects and research emerging from the Council’s Climate Action work
  • To support community engagement, advocate on how best to involve residents on climate issues and help to identify potential barriers with proposed initiatives and projects

How often are panel meetings?

Panel meetings are expected to be held at least two times a year for the duration of the panel’s tenure. Panel meetings will take place during the evening or on weekends where appropriate.

Meetings will be held face-to-face setting, with at least one meeting per year held in a community space to support community engagement. All meeting dates and times will be shared with the panel as part of the induction session.

Panel meetings are expected to begin in February 2023. The full Terms of Reference can be found here.

Will I be paid for my time?

We are grateful to all panel members for their time and contributions in helping Camden's Climate Action Plan be as successful as it can be. Panel members will receive a voucher of £168 per year providing all meetings in that year are attended. Members will be able to choose from a selection of voucher options.

Do I need to know about climate change?

No. While some prior knowledge or experience working on climate change would be advantageous, we want to prioritise securing a diverse panel who are comfortable sharing their lived experiences in relation to the council’s climate change programme.

The first meeting will be an introductory session where panel members will meet each another and learn more about their roles as panel members. They will also receive training on climate change and the climate crisis. This will help to ensure that everyone is able to actively participate and understands their role in supporting the council’s climate programme.

All panel members will be provided with information and resources to support meeting discussions where appropriate. We will also invite guest speakers to panel meetings where appropriate to support discussions.

How will the panel be recruited?

We are looking to recruit up to 20 panel members. Anyone who lives in the borough can apply to be on the panel. We are looking for citizens who:

  • Take an interest in Camden’s response to the climate emergency
  • Are willing to question, challenge and deliberate discussion topics
  • Remain open and willing to share their lived experiences
  • Are able to work in a team setting and respect that everyone has equal status on the panel, and
  • Recognise that compromise might be required to secure deliverable actions.

We want to ensure there are a range of voices on the panel and will be prioritising communities and groups who tend to be underrepresented in climate change conversations. This includes residents with no previous knowledge or experience working on climate change.

Responses will be anonymised and independently scored based on the answers provided to the application questions, which will be considered alongside the demographic information provided.

We are asking anyone interested in applying to fill in the form below to share some information about yourself and your interest in the climate crisis.
