Proposal to extend Responsible Dog Ownership Public Space Protection Order
Overview
We Make Camden is our communities’ vision and The Way We Work is the Council’s response to We Make Camden and sets an ambition that Camden should be a green, clean, vibrant, accessible and sustainable place with everyone empowered to contribute to tackling the climate emergency’.
Camden introduced a Public Space Protection Order to address irresponsible dog ownership for 3 years in April 2017 which expired in April 2020. The current PSPO began in March 2023 and expires in March 2026, and is currently the most straightforward and customary enforcement option to address irresponsible dog ownership. The council is proposing an extension to the current PSPO for a further 3 years.
The extension of the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) will enable officers to continue to take action against irresponsible dog owners and those who do not clear up after their dogs helping to ensure that green spaces, streets, housing estates and other public spaces are clean, attractive and safe, and that residents, visitors and businesses are actively involved in contributing to a safe and clean Camden.
