Highgate Newtown CC redevelopment
Overview
The rebuilding of Highgate Newtown Community Centre is almost complete. The voluntary sector organisation to be based here is now called Highgate Newtown Community Partners.
The new development also includes reproviding space for Camden youth services, building new homes, and improving the public realm.
The homes are now completed and occupied.
The contractor, Farrans, are due to finish off the outstanding works to the community centre building and provide warranties to Camden before this building is handed over (practical completion). Once the building is in Camden's possession, fit-out work is required on the community centre ground and first floors. This work is being commissioned by HNCP. This means the centre is likely to be open and offering services in autumn 2024.
You can see the plans on Camden's planning portal by entering the original application reference code 2018/5774/P.
A more recent (amended) application is on reference 2023/5438/P.
The flats and houses which have been built as part of the development have been retained by Camden and have become affordable housing for refugee families. This was achieved by using funds provided by the GLA and Home Office.
A letter for residents explaining the proposal is attached below.
